Musk to move SpaceX and X HQ over gender identity law

Musk to move SpaceX and X HQ over gender identity law

SpaceX, a rocket company, and X, a social media platform, will move their headquarters from California to Texas, according to billionaire Elon Musk.
He claimed that the move was brought about by recent state laws, particularly a new law that says schools can't make rules that say staff members must tell anyone, including parents, about a child's gender identity.
The law "protects the critical role of parents while keeping children safe," according to a governor's spokesperson.
But in a post on his social media platform, Mr. Musk referred to it as "the last straw."
In 2021, the billionaire relocated Tesla's headquarters to Texas, where he is a resident and does not pay income tax.
In the United States, the issue of what parents should be told by schools about their children's gender identities has become a major point of contention.
Some LGBTQ advocates argue that parents have a right to know what's going on with their children, while others assert that students have a right to privacy.
A spokesperson for the governor of California, Brandon Richards, told the Associated Press, "It protects the child-parent relationship by preventing politicians and school staff from inappropriately intervening in family matters and attempting to control if, when, and how families have deeply personal conversations."
Mr. Musk, who has a daughter who is transgender, has said in the past that he "supports trans" but that he is impatient with pronouns and calls them an "aesthetic nightmare."
In 2022, the billionaire's daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson filed for divorce.
When she applied to legally change her name and gender, she stated that she no longer desired to "be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form. "Last year, Mr Musk said he would hall to condemn transsexual clinical treatment.
He said in a post on X on Tuesday, "Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase,  Texas." He noted that he had previously voiced his opposition to the bill.
On social media, California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Mr. Musk's decision.
He also shared a screenshot of a post from 2022 by Donald Trump, in which he said that Mr. Musk would "drop to [his] knees and beg" if he asked. "You bent the knee,” he wrote.

                                               Moving headquarters

States have generally contended forcefully to charm organizations to lay out base camp, carrying with them lucrative corporate positions.
According to state records, SpaceX employs more than 5,000 people in California and already operates from a substantial Texas base.
Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, made the following statement in response to Mr. Musk's pledge: Texas now holds the lead in space exploration because of this."
SpaceX and X did not respond to inquiries regarding whether the decision to relocate its headquarters would result in layoffs in California.
Following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump on Saturday, Mr. Musk made the official endorsement for the presidency.
On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Mr. Musk would contribute $45 million per month to his campaign.
On X, Mr. Musk posted a meme that said the report was false. Later, he seemed to suggest that the claim was true by responding positively to a post that said he was pledging millions of dollars to help Trump win the election.
